Kalah Shives

I grew up on a small farm surrounded by woods and God’s creation. I loved anything art, and sometimes I would take my sketchbook outside and try to draw whatever I saw. My parents saw my love for art and signed me up for some starter art classes. My love for art grew, but my vision on what I could do with art was limited. In 2012 I went to a small Bible college in California and received a degree in Elementary Education. During my senior year, I took a class on children’s literature and was required to write and illustrate a children’s book. That is where I fell in love with illustration. After graduation, I went to Pensacola Christian College and dove into their art program.  

I was hired on with CED in 2023, and I love the family atmosphere. I have worked as a freelance artist since finishing at PCC and was hired on by an apparel company, where I worked as a graphic designer for a few years. It was my responsibility to interact with clients and design graphics for their event apparel. I am currently focusing on getting back to my original goal of becoming a children’s book illustrator. 

My husband and I currently live in Pennsylvania. We have a dog named Annie. We both love the outdoors, hiking, and exploring. In my downtime I will be either curled up on our couch reading a book or in my art studio working on a drawing or painting.
